Analysis of the development status of Chinese printing industry

For the printing industry, it is necessary to strengthen technological innovation, promote cross-border integration, build an innovation platform, promote the application of 5G, artificial intelligence, industrial Internet and industrial information security in manufacturing practices, promote the deep integration of the new generation of information technology and advanced manufacturing technology, and realize intelligent manufacturing in the true sense.

According to China Research Institute “2022-2027 China printing industry in-depth analysis and development prospects forecast report” shows

Analysis of the development status of Chinese printing industry

Affected by the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020, the operating revenue of China’s printing industry declined. The operating revenue of China’s printing industry in 2020 was 1197667 billion yuan, which was 180.978 billion yuan less than that in 2019, and 13.13% less than that in 2019. Of this total, the revenue of publication printing was 155.743 billion yuan, that of packaging and decoration printing was 950.331 billion yuan, and that of other printed matter printing was 78.276 billion yuan.

From the perspective of import market size, the import amount of Chinese printing industry from 2019 to 2021 shows a change trend of first decreasing and then increasing. In 2020, the total amount of imported printing in mainland China was about 4.7 billion US dollars, down 8% year on year due to the epidemic. In 2021, the total volume of imported printing products exceeded 5.7 billion US dollars, a recovery of 20% year on year, exceeding the level in 2019.

In 2021, the total import and export trade value of the domestic printing industry was 24.052 billion dollars. Of this amount, the import and export of printed matter amounted to 17.35 billion US dollars, the import and export of printing equipment amounted to 5.364 billion US dollars, and the import and export of printing equipment amounted to 1.452 billion US dollars. The import and export of printed matter, printing equipment and printing equipment accounted for 72%, 22% and 6% of the total import and export trade of domestic printing industry respectively. In the same period, the domestic printing industry’s import and export trade surplus was $12.64 billion.

At present, with the continuous upgrading of industrial pattern, technological innovation and the continuous growth of consumer market, the social demand of printing and packaging industry is increasing. According to relevant data, it is expected that by 2024, the value of the global packaging market will increase from $917 billion in 2019 to $1.05 trillion.

As the printing and manufacturing industry develops towards a broader direction of intelligent manufacturing with composite process, in 2022, the printing industry should cope with the changing social and market demands, promote the application of new generation of enabling technologies, and build an industrial development ecosystem from the five dimensions of software, hardware, network, standards and security. Improve their design ability, manufacturing ability, management ability, marketing ability, service ability, to achieve flexible manufacturing, improve efficiency, ensure quality, cost reduction goals.

Digital printing is a relatively green form of printing, but as of now, 30 percent of the world’s population is digital, compared with only 3 percent in China, where digital printing is still in its infancy. Quantuo Data believes that in the future, the Chinese market will have a greater demand for personalized and on-demand printing, and digital printing in China will further develop.
